Program of the 5th Austrian Business Education Convention on April 1, 2011

The day before, Thursday, March 31, 2011, a Research Workshop for Young Researchers took place.

Conference Material

In the current education policy debate, based on a primarily constructivist understanding of learning, great importance is attached to interdisciplinary skills in the spectrum between social and personal skills, sometimes to the detriment of the subject-specific content. This education policy megatrend is documented not only in the current reform proposals for the standardization of teacher training, but also in the current BMHS curriculum drafts.

In the keynote speeches, reference was therefore made from various perspectives to the importance of subject-specific content both in the context of the BE degree program and in the intermediate and higher-level vocational schools (HAK, HLW, etc.). This is the only way to ensure the polyvalence that is the actual hallmark of both the university-based Business Education program and the BMHS in the future. Current developments in education policy were also subjected to a critical analysis, with a particular focus on vocational education and training.

The afternoon program took place in four tracks on specific topics. Presentations and subsequent discussions on current issues were organized by staff members from all Austrian BE locations.
