VUE Social Skills in Management

The Vorlesungsübung (VUE, loosely translated as lecture-exercise blended learning) "Social Skills in Management" can be attended as part of the WU degree program for a major in Business Administration 2023.

As part of the VUE "Social Skills in Management", basic application-oriented concepts are taught and reflected upon, which can be practiced in greater depth in workshops (free electives). The following topics are covered:

  • Description of competencies that are attributed to social skills; explanation of the methods with which they can be assessed; demonstration of their importance for successful performance in social situations

  • Analyzing communication situations based on various communication theories; improving communication

  • Analysis of conflicts employing basic models of conflict management; application of methods of conflict management and resolution; active positioning in the conflict process; recognition of options while assessing the consequences

  • Active prevention of conflict escalation with the help of the acquired communication models

  • Preparation of cooperative negotiations and analysis of negotiations; conducting negotiations as a cooperative discussion; recognizing and successfully countering tricks in negotiations; evaluation of the negotiation process and its result with regard to the set goals

  • Participant- and problem-oriented planning of informative and persuasive presentations; sensible structuring of information transfer and reasoning

  • Appropriateness, possibilities and limitations of the use of group moderation; moderation itinerary planning

  • Description of the development and advantages of teams; analysis of the behavior of and within teams

The VUE is structured in such a way that an intermediate examination is scheduled after the first five course dates (separate registration for the examination is not required). Assessment is based on active participation, the written exam and writing assignments.
