How did you learn about the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program and why did you choose to participate?

I found out about the program because of an Instagram post of WU. Аs I had been considering to travel to Argentina for a long time , this came up as the perfect opportunity. I already had an good level of Spanish and participating in the prigram seemed like a nice chance to improve my language skills by meeting locals while at the same obtaining new knowledge in the area of International Marketing.

How did participating in the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program help you in terms of your personal / professional / academic development?

I realized that Buenos Aires is, in many regards, similar to many major european cities. Of course, one does not have to underestimate the fact that it is a huge south american city and certain areas should be avoided. When commuting alone in Buenos Aires, one learns to be more alert and responsible towards his/her belongings. As we had an amazing city tour organized by the university, I also learned many new things about the argentine history. It was very enriching to hear about how it all started from a small port and turned into one of the biggest cities in the world nowadays. The groups for the final project of the course were mixed with half austrian and half argentinian students. It was interesting to observe the differences that both cultures had in respect to how to approach the given task. It definitely boosted up my cultural understanding and working in group skills.

What can you tell us about the academic program and the lecturers? What was your impression?

From the academic side, it was interesting to see the techniques of three different professors from different nationalities, teaching consecutively one after another. The topics covered were far more interesting than what I’ve had in WU, where the courses were mainly based on theory and no practical exaples. What is more, the organization of the classes was more like in a high school, so connectiong with your classmates was very easy. I enjoyed mostly the big group project, as it was the perfect bonding between the two cultures.

How did you like the social and cultural program? Did you have enough opportunities to make new contacts?

The city tour and the tango class were very nice and we had a lot of fun. Generally, argentinians are very open and want to get to know more about other countries, especially when it comes to Europe. They invited us to do stuff with them and always joined us for a drink in the evenings. Even without having had planned events, we could have socialized with the argentinians the same way. From day 1 on we went having lunch together and started getting to know each other. I expected more from the cultural evening and the company visit - I feel organization from the argentinian side was missing for them.

Please give us a short overview of your expenses for the program (travel, accommodation, food, activities...) to help future participants to estimate the financial aspect.

We were a group of 20 WU students and after the first pre-meeting we started organizing Airbnbs together. Airbnb seemed like the easiest way to get accomodation, even though they are considerably more expensive compared to prices that locals pay. We split into 5 groups and every group was looking for themselves. All of us stayed in Belgrano or Palermo - both neighbourhoods are very safe and are full of restaurants, cafes, etc. Price for accomodation was around 400eur per person. The flight(both directions) was 1500eur and my personal expenses for food and activities were around 450-500eur for 4 weeks(the program itself lasts 3 weeks but almost all of us stayed 1 week more to enjoy the city or to travel). Prices of leisure activities were very low compared to Vienna – e.g., eating a main meal+a cocktail in a restaurant costs around 10eur. Taxi is also cheap – I mainly used the app Cabify.

What was your personal highlight / your favorite memory about this program?

One of the many amazing moments was going to a Poolparty in the house of one of the argentinians. She invited all of us to her home and literally the whole group got together, and we had fun until 3am (it had 30 degrees - one of the hottest days of the month).

Generally, I think the biggest highlight of this program were the argentinians who participated in the course. They were incredibly friendly and open, helped us with everything they could, and assured that we had a really nice time.

Would you like to share anything else / further statements about the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program?

I strongly recommend the program to anybody who wants to dicover the argentinian culture and their slow-paced lifestyle. Having the chance to sit next to argentinain students, study and work together with them for 3 weeks is a unique experience that allows you to conncet with the locals on a more profound level.

My tip for eating out in Belgrano is a restaurant called “La colorada”. It offers argentie cuisine and is very delicious. Also the prices are not very high.

My tip for going to uni in the morning is taking a taxi from a main street. They have a red sign “libre” if it is free. We tried to take the bus a couple of times, but public transport is very unpunctual so we started going with taxi (if you travel together with 2 more peple you would pay 1-2eur per person).

My tip when booking flights is to rather fly with Air France, Lufthansa, or KLM, even though the prices mught be a little bit higher. Many of us chose the spanish airline Iberia and had problems.
