Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program 2023

How did you learn about the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program and why did you choose to participate?
I learned about the ISP at the information desk of the International Office at the Welcome Days in September 2022. As I am very interested in South America and gaining international experience in university context I applied.
How did participating in the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program help you in terms of your personal / professional / academic development
For me the ISP was a very intense time, it was my first time out of Europe, and it was a very exciting moment of my life. Personally, I've grown mostly through the people I've met. I spent a lot of time with Argentineans and got to know the culture of Argentina and their personal attitudes and goals, which made me reflect mine. Furthermore, I lived in a shared apartment with 3 other participants, two of whom I didn't know before the program, which was also very new to me. I’ve learned a lot about the economic situation/history of Argentina, which is very complicated, and it made me realize the privilege I have living and studying in Austria.
What can you tell us about the academic program and the lecturers? What was your impression?
I really liked having three different professors during the three weeks. The content was thus examined from a wider perspective than a single professor could have done on his or her own. For me it was especially interesting getting to know personal stories of their work experience. Otherwise, the fact that I had three professors of different nationalities made me think about different teaching styles, because I saw very big differences, for example, in the level of interaction during class.
How did you like the social and cultural program? Did you have enough opportunities to make new contacts?
During the course a close community was formed between the WU and the UTDT Students, in my case especially in my Group Project Team, which was composed of three Argentinian and four Austrian Students. During the social program like the city tour and the scavenger hunt we got to spend even more time in that group and that bonded our community.
Please give us a short overview of your expenses for the program (travel, accommodation, food, activities...) to help future participants to estimate the financial aspect.
1450 Euro Plane
20 Euro Program Fee (as I was the student assistant for the ISP it was less, for others 620 Euro)
550 Euro Accommodation (with 3 other women we lived in an Airbnb in Belgrano)
300 Euro costs for food/activities during the three weeks
800 Euro travel costs for my two weeks of travelling in Iguazú, Patagonia and Uruguay (after the program)
What was your personal highlight / your favorite memory about this program?
My personal highlight are the friendships I formed through the program. It was special seeing some Argentinians daily for the whole three weeks: after class we always had lunch together on the campus (really good for <2-3€), then we had the social activities or worked on our group project and on the weekend, we met in the city center. Through this close contact, I got to know and understand Argentine culture much better than I would have just as a visitor in the country, for which I am very grateful.
Would you like to share anything else / further statements about the Buenos Aires Global Marketing Program?
Deciding to participate was one of the best decisions I have taken in my life so far. I learned a lot and picked up a lot that I want to apply in my everyday life in Vienna. I have formed very good friendships with Argentinians as well as Austrians and now I also feel closer to WU. I can recommend ISP as a program to everyone because the intensity of the program forms a special community between the students. I can especially recommend the ISP at UTDT in Buenos Aires. The university and campus are very nice and located in a safe, beautiful neighborhood. The Argentine students were on summer vacation at the time, so they also had a lot of time after class to do things with us Austrians. Buenos Aires is a very diverse city, the neighborhoods vary greatly, from classic to colorful for example.
Domestic flights are relatively cheap, it is well worth flying from Buenos Aires for example to the Iguazú Falls, the most beautiful nature I have ever seen in my life. (We were as a group of 10 WU Students from Monday to Wednesday in the week after the program ended)
