General information

  • Available for degree program students (bachelor and master)

  • Financial support for a self-organized internship abroad

  • The internship takes place in one of the 27 EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, or Türkiye.

  • Multiple funded stays abroad of up to 12 months per study cycle (e.g., bachelor's or master's degree) are possible.

  • Grants awarded are subject to available funding.

Note: Due to budgetary restrictions, please note the following applies (until further notice) for internships starting from May 2025:

  • Internships in the country of origin (i.e., the country of nationality) will be funded for a maximum duration of 2 months.

  • Mobility to the country of origin is not possible for students who typically reside or have their primary place of residence in a neighboring country, including cross-border commuters.

  • Post-graduate internships will be funded for a maximum duration of 2 months.

  • All other internships will be funded for a maximum duration of 4 months.

Prerequisites & requirements

  • Duration: Full-time (30+ hours per week) for a minimum of two months (60 days).

  • Bachelor's students: Must have completed at least 36 ECTS credits (excluding free electives).

  • Master's students: To apply for an internship abroad, you must be enrolled in a master’s program at WU Vienna. If you're enrolled in a German-taught program, you must have successfully completed the introductory/assessment course (German: Einführungsveranstaltung), which is required before taking subsequent courses in your curriculum.

  • The internship must be related to your field of study and/or provide a valuable addition to your education.

  • A physical presence at the location of the hosting organization or company is required.

  • Internships can be completed at any organization engaged in entrepreneurial activities. However, institutions of the European Union (e.g., EU Commission) and organizations administering EU programs (see list) are excluded.

Important notes:

  • BBE and IBW students can earn ECTS credits for a successful internship abroad followed by an internship seminar. More details here.

  • CEMS compulsory internships are not eligible for Erasmus+ funding, as they don’t meet the requirement of earning at least 3 ECTS credits per month.

  • For internship confirmations (e.g., "Convention de Stage"), contact the Study Information (Study Service Center). Erasmus+ internships are voluntary since WU's curricula (excluding CEMS) do not mandate them.

Financial information

Erasmus+ internship grants help cover part of your living expenses abroad, though they do not provide full coverage. The grant is paid directly by WU Vienna: 80% at the start, and 20% after your return and once all documentation is submitted. The amount is calculated on a daily basis and only paid to your personal account.
