• Grades received from completed exams or courses before the leave of absence takes effect remain binding.

• Taking exams, requesting credit transfers, and submitting your thesis for review will not be possible once your application of leave of absence has been approved.

Under what conditions can I apply for a leave of absence?

You can apply for a leave of absence for the following reasons:

1. Compulsory military service, voluntary military training and service/ “Ausbildungsdienst” or community service (proof: conscription notice).

2. Pregnancy (proof: parent-child pass)

3. Childcare (proof: birth certificate and registration confirmation/ “Meldezettel” of the child and parent)

4. Semester abroad as a “Free Mover” (proof: confirmation from the university abroad)

5. Long-term illness (Medical confirmation form)

6. Providing care for relatives in need of support (Proof of relationship and medical confirmation form)

7. Voluntary social year (confirmation of organization)

 

How do I apply?

Send the completed and signed form together with the required proof from your WU email account to studienzulassung@wu.ac.at.

Documents issued abroad must comply with our translation and legalization requirements.

Send your application form before the start of a semester (before October 1^st or March 1^st)

A delayed submission of the application is only permitted under unforeseeable and inevitable events contained in the conditions 2., 3., 5., and 6. for a leave of absence.

Please note:

• During a leave of absence timely payment of the Students’ Union (ÖH) fee remains obligatory.

• A refund of a tuition fee payment is only possible if your leave of absence extends to November 30^th in the winter semester and April 30^th in the summer semester.
