Room control and presentation technology in the teaching room
Worth knowing
Thanks to the high level of standardization at WU, the use of classroom technology is similar in all classrooms. Certain elements of the classroom technology are the same in all classroom categories (e.g. dual projection, instructor's PC and monitor with interactive pen, connection to web conferencing tools, lighting control, etc.). Smaller classrooms (HS 60, Seminarraum 30) differ from larger classrooms (Audimax, HS 180, HS 120) in the presence of a SMART Board (interactive whiteboard) and room control via a keypad instead of a touch display. Selected classrooms have a built-in lecture recording system or tracking cameras for the implementation of hybrid teaching. An overview of all classroom categories can be found here.
Instructions and materials
WU's Media Guide provides comprehensive information and instructions on room control and the operation of presentation equipment. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with it before your first course session:
Introduction to the lecture room technology: everything you need to know (English version) (PDF) for a compact overview
Medienguide: All elements of the room and media equipment in the teaching rooms at a glance
TIP: You can also try out the room control and presentation technology in a free classroom using the instructions!
Do you need an on-site introduction to classroom technology?
We offer introductions to classroom technology on request - also for groups. We can cover the basics as well as more specific application scenarios:
What do I need to bring to the classroom and what can I find on site?
How do I operate the various devices and controls in the classroom?
How do I write and annotate my PPT slides?
How and where can I record my lecture?
Please use the WU Service Desk to request an appointment. Please note that we need to receive your appointment request at least two weeks prior to the course date, especially for special teaching scenarios such as hybrid teaching settings or course recordings, so that we can plan the on-site introduction in a timely and optimal manner.
Interactive Whiteboard (SMART Board) in the classroom
Worth knowing
A SMART Board® (interactive whiteboard) is available in every seminar room (30) at WU. It can be used as a blackboard or whiteboard replacement and helps you to make your classes more dynamic. The SMART Board® has a touch-sensitive surface and can be operated with a finger or a SMART Pen. You can use it in the following scenarios:
Extend the screen: Navigate through programs, presentations and Web pages directly on the SMART Board and add handwritten annotations as needed.
Writing and drawing: The resulting pages, or "board images," can be saved in a variety of formats and reused (e.g., in the next lesson).
Insert graphics, video and web page content: Use the built-in capture feature or simple copy and paste to bring content directly to the digital whiteboard for editing.
Integrate interactive elements and exercises: Actions such as match, reveal, and move can be used to create different scenarios that allow for dynamic and interactive work.
Instructions and materials
In the WU Media Guide you will find comprehensive information and instructions on how to use the SMART Board or the SMART Notebook software:
TIP: You can also try out the interactive whiteboard at any time in a free teaching room or familiarize yourself with the software on your workstation computer!
You need an on-site introduction to the SMART Board?
We offer SMART Board introductions on request - also for groups. Depending on individual questions and application scenarios, the following topics can be covered during the introduction:
How do I write, draw and highlight on the SMART Board?
How can I create and save my sketches on digital whiteboard pages instead of on the traditional whiteboard?
How do I bring media, such as video or pictures, to the digital whiteboard for editing?
What exercises are appropriate for students to edit on the SMART Board?
Please use the WU Service Desk to request an appointment. Please note that we should receive your appointment request at least two weeks before the course date so that we can plan the on-site introduction in a timely and optimal manner.
Media technology in the FLEX Media Studios
Worth knowing
With the FLEX Media Studios, the Future Learning Experience Center (FLEX) offers the opportunity to produce high-quality audiovisual media easily and without prior technical knowledge.
There are two recording areas in the FLEX Video Studio: one with a green screen and one with a lightboard (a glass board you can write on while looking into the camera). Touch panels allow you to select presets and control the recording. Lecture videos, interview situations, and explanation videos can be realized with the available equipment without technical support. The FLEX Audio Studio can be used to produce audio formats such as podcasts and professionally dub instructional videos.
Instructions and materials
On the FLEX website you will find comprehensive information and insights into the FLEX Media Studios:
