A fire broke out on the construction site of the new WU campus on Thursday, May 10, at approximately 4:50pm.

The affected building W2 is located on the west side of the site, on the corner of the streets Messestrasse and Südportalstrasse. The cause of the blaze is assumed to be flame-scarfing work that ignited insulation materials on the roof of the building. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Approximately 100 workers were present on the W2 construction site at the time of the blaze. One worker was brought to a local hospital with a suspected minor smoke inhalation injury.

Emergency crews responded promptly and were able to extinguish the fire rapidly.

No delays in the construction schedule are expected to result from the fire.
