WU is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Owens has joined the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at WU as the Director of the newly established WU Global Tax Policy Center. The WU Global Tax Policy Center will build on the existing academic and research activities in international tax law at WU and will put an additional focus on the tax policy and tax administrations issues that arise in an increasingly globalized world. Dr. Owens, a renowned expert in the tax sciences, has now been appointed as professor at WU.

Prof. Dr. Owens will assume his new responsibilities on May 1, 2012. Owens is a trained accountant and economist and has held a number of academic posts in his 40-year career in taxation. For the last 12 years, he has headed OECD's global taxation policy work as director of the organization's Center for Tax Policy and Administration.

Long-standing expertise in tax sciences

Prof. Lang, the Head of the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at WU, welcoming this appointment, noted that "Jeffrey Owens will add a new dimension to the work of the Institute both in terms of the topics that we cover and the geographical coverage of our activities. I and my colleagues are very much looking forward to working with him over the coming years to reinforce Vienna and WU as a center of global excellence on tax issues."
