Impact Report „magdas“ - Subsequent Study

On behalf of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna, the NPO & SE Competence Centre carried out an impact analysis of Caritas Services GesmbH ("magdas") and the association "magdas - Social Business of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna" for the period 2015 to 2017. The aim of the impact report was to process, analyse and scientifically contextualise the performance and impact indicators of magdas and its business areas. The basis for the study was an impact measurement grid prepared in advance by Caritas Vienna. In addition to many results in terms of content, the study also showed that the impact measurement grid and the impact model are too focused on the output and the performance indicators of the magda and that their plausibility must be checked.

Subsequent Study

The current impact analysis builds on the results of the study already completed. The aim of the follow-up evaluation is to revise the impact model and to measure and analyse the impacts of "magdas" more comprehensively. For this purpose, several workshops will be held in order to jointly define the impact objectives as well as suitable impact indicators and to develop concrete survey design for measuring the impacts. Furthermore, magdas' own survey instruments will be screened and, if necessary, supplemented by relevant impact questions. Subsequently, the data collected in this way are evaluated and analysed. In this way, it can be determined which changes have occurred with the main stakeholders as a result of magdas' activities and whether the intended effects have been achieved. Within the framework of the impact analysis, however, any unintended impacts are also recorded and presented. The results of the present analysis are primarily for internal use in the sense of internal learning and for the continuation of the process of impact-oriented management.

The study is scheduled to last about 8 months and is expected to be completed in June 2020.
