Study on the impacts of BMEIA's international cultural activities and the development of impact indicators for future evaluations

The Network of Austrian International Culture organises thousands of events each year in the fields of music, literature, dance, visual arts, film, women, innovation, dialogue and scientific diplomacy, promotes artists and scientists and cooperates with project partners worldwide. The aim of these activities is to promote Austrian artists and scientists and to build bridges between cultural areas and thus to build trust and strengthen (European) integration. The focus here is on innovation, the contemporary and the little established.

It is traditionally difficult to survey, measure and evaluate the impact of artistic and scientific achievements, which are often closely interwoven with the culture of a country. This study will now use an impact model for international cultural work to explore in more detail what effects are produced by the activities and funding of the BMEIA (Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs) and in this area. On this basis, it is also necessary to develop impact indicators for an ongoing adequate evaluation of the effects of international cultural work and, in this context, to consider possible practicable survey designs.
