AI Skills - An introduction to Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) in Machine Learning

Banner AI Skills

What is a RAG?

We invite you to join us for an engaging and informative workshop on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), a powerful new approach in the world of artificial intelligence (AI) that combines the best of two technologies—machine learning and information retrieval. RAG enables AI systems to not only generate responses or content, but also to pull in relevant, real-world information to make those responses more accurate, insightful, and up-to-date.

Agenda

During this workshop, you'll discover:

  • What is RAG?
We'll break down the concept, explaining how it merges AI's ability to generate text with the capability to search and retrieve information from large collections of data.

  • How does RAG work?
We'll discuss how RAG finds and uses external sources to improve its responses, making them more informed and relevant.

  • Why is RAG useful?
Learn about the wide range of practical applications where RAG can bring tremendous value, from customer service chatbots to research tools, content creation, and more.

  • What does a RAG application look like?
We'll provide a hands-on example to show what a real-world RAG system could look like, from how it retrieves information to how it improves the generated content.

To make the workshop more accessible and tailored to different interests and backgrounds, we’ll be dividing participants into two groups:

  • Technical Group: This group will explore the technical aspects of RAG in greater depth, ideal for those with some prior experience in coding, data science, or AI. We'll look at how RAG systems are built, discussing topics like architecture, data retrieval processes, and implementation.

  • Non-Technical Group: If you’re less familiar with technical concepts or new to AI, this group will provide a more general overview, focusing on RAG's key concepts, benefits, and everyday uses. We'll keep the explanations clear, practical, and easy to follow, ensuring you gain a solid understanding of how RAG works without needing any prior technical knowledge.

Goals & Learnings

  • Whether you're an AI enthusiast, a business professional looking to understand new technologies, or someone curious about the future of AI in everyday applications, this workshop will provide valuable insights into how Retrieval Augmented Generation is transforming the way we interact with and benefit from intelligent systems.

Place & Time

  • When: 06.11.2024 von 19:30 - 22:00

  • Where: Infineon Hub, Paniglgasse 1-3, 1040 Wien

Additional Information

  • Participants should bring their own laptop or tablet. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the workshop.

  • This Workshop will be held in English.

Lumos is the first student-run organization offering data science consulting solutions in Vienna. We are constantly evolving and work on dynamic projects that over the years gathered the most motivated students interested in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics. We provide an environment, where students can extend their knowledge of new technologies and improve their hard skills by working on real business cases as well as soft skills. Our networks have been extending over the years, and we have former members of Lumos that are working in different sectors, such as consultancy, banking sector, IT as well as Academia.
