Grading scale/system

In addition to the 5-level grading scale (1-5 or excellent – fail), student performance can also be assessed on a “pass/fail” basis in cases where numerical grades are impossible or impractical.

The graduation certificate includes the overall assessment “passed” if every subject was successfully completed. The overall assessment “passed with honors” is awarded if the student received no grades worse than “good” (2), and at least half of the subjects taken were graded with “excellent” (1). What is meant here with "grades" is not all the courses individually but the subjects (such as “Business and Economics in Context” in BBE).

All courses announced as AGs (Arbeitsgemeinschaft, workshop-type courses) are graded on a “pass/fail” basis only.
