Impact Analysis of the mentoring programme "Sindbad"

Sindbad Logo

More than one in five people in Austria who have completed compulsory schooling or less are unemployed. Of the 21,393 unemployed young people aged 20 to 24 in 2022, 48.1% had no more than a compulsory school leaving certificate. The apprenticeship drop-out rate is almost 20%. The average earned income for those with a compulsory school leaving certificate is far below that of those with higher educational qualifications.

This is where the social enterprise Sindbad wants to start with its 1:1 mentoring programme. The programme connects educationally disadvantaged young people with young adults. Mentees are pupils aged between 13 and 19 who are looking for an apprenticeship or secondary school. The focus is on the transition from 9th grade to an apprenticeship or secondary school. The mentors are young adults between the ages of 20 and 35 who support young people during the transition to training. During the 12-month programme, mentors develop their leadership skills and mentees benefit from trained and reflective support.

The NPO Competence Centre is conducting an evaluation of the social added value of the Sindbad mentoring programme. More precisely, an SROI analysis is used to calculate the monetised impact Sindbad has on various stakeholders and impact affected. These are compared with the investments in the organisation in order to determine an SROI value.
