Funders and Research Data Management

Research funders are increasingly demanding professional research data management. In doing so, they want to ensure that the projects they finance are reproducible. Research results should also be available for further research after the end of the project in order to unlock their full potential.

National Funding Agencies

FWF

Since January 1, 2019 the FWF requests for all the approved projects that you:

  • provide a data management plan (.docx) that describes what data is collected for the project and the intended use of it;

  • make the research data underlying the sponsored publication publicly available (for example by using a repository) as Open Data, unless there are substantial reasons not to do so.

  • Support at WU: Beate Hareter (Research Service Center)

EU Funding

Horizon Europe

Information on Horizon Europe can be found online under "Funding & tender opportunities". Read more on the management of research data within Horizon Europe funded projects in the HE Programme Guide (Chapters on "Dissemination and exploitation of research results" and "Open Science").

Please note! Similar to research funders, more and more academic publishers such as the American Economic Association recognize the significance of research data. They want to ensure that the results they publish are reproducible and robust. That is why they are increasingly demanding RDM and require this for the publication of studies. For further information, please check the specific data policy of your publisher. You may find useful hints on this issue in the presentation "What you should know about data policies in economic and social science journals".
