Martin Halla is a Professor of Economics at WU, Vienna. He is an applied microeconometrician with primary research interests in family, labor, and health economics. His work also extends to various aspects of political economy and tax evasion, with recent projects utilizing historical data from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Prof. Halla holds several prominent affiliations. He is a Permanent Scientific Consultant at the Austrian National Public Health Institute in Vienna, an Associate at the Austrian Institute of Economic Research, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor in Bonn. Additionally, he is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Austrian Socio-Economic Panel and contributes to the Standing Field Committees for Population Economics, Health Economics, and Social Policy of the Verein für Socialpolitik.

Beyond his academic and research contributions, Prof. Halla is Co-Editor of Empirica, the official journal of the Nationalökonomische Gesellschaft (Austrian Economic Association). His editorial approach emphasizes the value of descriptive studies, encouraging research on current or unexplored topics and fostering meaningful contributions to economic discourse.
