The QS World University Ranking ranks universities in five general subject areas (Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Technology; Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences and Management) and over 40 individual subjects. The ranking is based on two broad surveys – one focusing on academics and one on employers – and on the quality of academic publications, including citation data.

In the subject area Social Sciences and Management, WU placed 38th in the Business & Management Studies subject ranking. This result puts it in the same league as renowned institutions like the University of St. Gallen and Australia’s Monash University. WU is also the only Austrian university ranked among the world’s top 50 business and management schools. In addition, WU is also listed in this year’s subject rankings for Finance & Accounting (group 101-150), Economics & Econometrics (group 101-150), Computer Sciences & Information Systems (group 401-450), and Law (201-250). “We are extremely pleased with these results. They show that WU has an excellent international reputation, both in academia and the business world, and that WU is highly competitive internationally in business and management research,” says Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger.

Strong results also in the QS Business Masters Ranking 2018

In September 2018, WU already achieved excellent results in the QS Business Masters Ranking with two of its English-taught master’s programs. In the Masters in Finance ranking, WU’s Master’s Program in Quantitative Finance came in 20th out of a total of 159 programs ranked, and WU’s Master’s Program in Strategy, Innovation, and Management Control came in 18th out of 135 programs ranked in the Masters in Management Ranking.
