International HRM Scholarly Research Award

Human Resources (HR) Division of the Academy of Management honors Mihaela Dimitrova and Marlene Gruber

We are very pleased to announce that WU Professor Mihaela Dimitrova and Teaching and Research Associate Marlene Gruber have been honored with this year’s International HRM Scholarly Research Award!
This important award is presented each year to the author(s) of the paper selected as the year’s most significant article in international HRM.
The two researchers are part of an international team of authors, together with John Kammeyer-Mueller (University of Minnesota) and Margaret A. Shaffer (University of Oklahoma).

They received the award for their paper “Escaping the rut: Bridging research on expatriate and organizational newcomer adjustment,” published in the Journal of World Business.

The award was sponsored by the Penn State School of Labor and Employment Relations, Center for International Human Resource Studies, represented by Elaine Farndale. 
The award ceremony took place in Chicago on August 12, 2024.

Mihaela Dimitrova is an Associate Professor at the Department of Global Business and Trade. Prior to joining WU Vienna, she was an Assistant Professor of Management at Oakland University, USA. She holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA. Her research interests center around global work experiences. In particular, her focus is on the management of global employees, cross-cultural management, as well as employees’ proactive behavior and thriving in international environments. Her research has been recognized with several international awards and has been published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, and Human Relations, among others. She serves on the editorial review boards of Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Global Mobility.

Marlene Gruber is a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Responsibility and Sustainability in Global Business, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on sustainability and international business. Her research interests lie in the field of individual-level reactions to corporate responsibility and sustainability in the context of international human resource management, grand societal challenges, and the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in business practice.
