WU at Forum Alpbach
WU researchers are well-received speakers and participants at the European Forum Alpbach. By giving talks, leading working groups, and participating in panel discussions, they provide valuable contributions on current social and political topics. WU’s experts from the Institute for Cryptoeconomics will be giving the Alpbach scholarship holders fascinating insights into this promising field of research at the WU Crypto Night.
The European Forum Alpbach is an interdisciplinary platform for science, politics, business and culture. Hundreds of experts meet at the Forum every year in August to exchange knowledge and discuss ideas. The theme of the 2018 Forum is “Diversity & Resilience.” Participants will discuss to what extent diversity promotes and encourages dynamic behavior, creates opportunities, and inspires innovative solutions in society.
The contributions of WU’s researchers reflect the wide spectrum of research areas represented at WU. They include topics like renewable resources, society and crises, diversity as a motor for innovation, manipulation through “fake news,” economic education, diverse decision-making cultures, and anti-trend banking.
One key focus area this year is blockchain technology. Through the establishment of its Research Institute for Cryptoeconomics last year, WU has positioned itself as a leading institution in this promising field of research. WU experts will be heading two working groups on this topic, showing participants possible applications for this technology and talking about the social changes it is likely to bring.
The WU Crypto Night will offer a comprehensive, hands-on approach to the subject. At this public evening session, researchers will be introducing the research institute and its work and talking about current projects. After the presentation, researchers will be available for one-on-one conversations. Alpbach scholarship holders will have the opportunity to find out more about specific applications for blockchain technology at three interactive stations: Wallet, Timestamping, and Sustainability.
