BYOD-Exams

BYOD exams take place on site in the classrooms at WU. Students work on the exams on their own devices under supervision. Students without their own device can request to lend a device in advance of the exam.

As part of the introduction of BYOD exams, the previously fixed PCs in WU's PC rooms will be gradually removed and the rooms will be converted into Plug & Study rooms. Each workstation in a Plug & Study room is equipped with a large monitor, input devices (mouse and keyboard) and a cable bundle. Students can connect their own device to the large monitor, which makes working with third-party applications (e.g. SPSS) much easier.

BYOD exams with third-party applications, which we refer to as BYOD+ exams, should take place in Plug & Study rooms. For such exams in Plug & Study rooms, 250 virtual PC workstations are also available where the software required for the exam is installed.

A good power supply and sufficient WLAN capacity in the classrooms are important for the smooth running of BYOD examinations. The introduction of BYOD exams is therefore accompanied by an expansion of the corresponding infrastructure, especially in the large classrooms at WU.
