Algorithms for fair political decisions

David Preinerstorfer works on timely research questions at the interface between econometrics and statistics. For example, he looks at how treatments and policy measures can be selected efficiently and which methods and models can be used to obtain optimal results from big data. “In one project, I’ve investigated how algorithms can be adapted so that they lead to efficient political decisions while at the same time reducing discrimination,” says the new WU professor. As a statistician, David Preinerstorfer is a respected expert in his field, and he has won multiple awards, including the Prix Adolphe Wetrems from the Académie Royale de Belgique and the Multa Scripsit award presented by the journal Econometric Theory.
