ORCID iD Services

ORCID iDs serve as interoperable and non-proprietary identifiers for individuals – this distinguishes them from other researcher IDs. They have now become the standard within the scientific community. ORCID iDs facilitate the permanent attribution of scientific accomplishments (publications, lectures, editorships, peer review activities, memberships, etc.) to individuals. Even if names or organizational affiliations change, or when multiple researchers share similar names, achievements can be consistently linked to a specific individual. ORCID iDs persist throughout researchers’ lifetimes, consolidating essential information about their scientific trajectory into a single data record. This greatly simplifies the compilation of application materials, funding requests, and more. In addition, ORCID iDs are increasingly mandatory: numerous scientific publishers and funding agencies (e.g. the FWF) require an ORCID iD when submitting articles or project funding applications. Creating an ORCID iD is free of charge for researchers.

Linking Pure/WU Research with ORCID

Linking your ORCID iD with your profile in Pure/WU Research is practical, as it eliminates the need to enter new entries separately in each system. Instead, entries can be entered once and then exported to the other system. Instructions for creating this link can be found in the Pure manual: Integration with online platforms.

Linking the ORCID iD in the WU Catalog

We also connect WU researchers who have an ORCID iD to their ORCID profile in the WU Catalog. Simply click on the green ORCID icon within the detailed view of the catalog to access the profile of the linked individual:
