Melanie Wiener
Melanie Wiener’s interests include strategic and behavioral questions in open strategy and open foresight, sustainability-oriented innovation, as well as circular economy. Her main current and past research projects relate to open foresight in various contexts.

Melanie Wiener joined the ISM at WU Vienna in February 2020 (marginal employment) and also works as a post-doctoral researcher at the ISM at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Before joining WU Melanie was deputy head and post-doctoral researcher at the Institute for Integrated Quality Design at JKU. Melanie holds a PhD from JKU Linz with guest research visits at the Aalborg University (DEN) and Aarhus University (DEN). Her doctoral dissertation, “open-foresight and corporate culture,” included theory-building on the organizational settings needed to enhance the success of collaborative open foresight with an emphasis on culture, the role of top management, and open foresight team composition. It was recognized with the Tudor Rickards and Susan Moger CIM Best Paper Award in 2018 for its academic relevance and the Karl Leitl Partnership Award for outstanding contributions to the field of inter-organizational collaboration.

Melanie obtained her two master degrees (Business education // Business & Economics) from JKU Linz, where she specialized in Entrepreneurship and Supply Chain Management and International Business. During her diploma, Melanie studied at Växjö University (SWE), conducted a Comenius assistance in La Spezia (IT) and worked for the charity organization “Make me Smile” in Kenya.
