WU at place 13 in Financial Times Global Masters in Management ranking

10/09/2018

In the annual ranking of the world’s best degree programs in management by the renowned business newspaper Financial Times, WU remained at 13th place this year, once again securing a place among the group designated as the best by the newspaper. A total of 100 programs made it into the ranking in 2018, five more than last year. The University of St. Gallen keeps its position in the top spot.

With its English-taught Master’s Program in International Management, WU achieved 13th place again in the 2018 Global Masters in Management Ranking, issued by the well-known business newspaper Financial Times. The program offers students from around the world an internationally recognized management degree with the option of spending a semester abroad at a respected international partner university. Students also have the opportunity to gain professional experience by completing an international internship and get a head start by making contact with top companies during their studies.

WU maintains an excellent international ranking position

The 2018 ranking lists WU as the second-best university in the German-speaking region. This result puts WU in the same league as prestigious institutions like Spain’s ESADE Business School (11th place), the Stockholm School of Economics (12th place), and the University of Mannheim (14th place). “The WU master’s in International Management is one of the leading programs worldwide. International academic rankings and our universities’ performance in these rankings often meet with criticism in Austria, but in spite of this, WU manages to represent Austria positively and at the same time demonstrates that it is possible to perform well in international rankings,” says Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger. “This success is even more impressive when you consider the fact that as a public university, we are in competition with institutions operating under completely different conditions, for example with much better student-teacher ratios.”

Master’s in International Management: High levels of graduate satisfaction

In the FT ranking, universities are ranked in 17 categories in three areas: alumni career progress, diversity (percentages of female and international students and personnel), and international experience and research. Not only the universities are surveyed, but also program alumni; their responses are weighted more heavily in the statistical analysis than the universities’ answers. In detail, the results show that 96% of WU alumni find a job within three months of graduating. WU also again excelled with its comprehensive portfolio of foreign language courses and its international environment. This aspect leads to higher levels of professional mobility later in graduates’ careers and in better positions at larger companies. WU has also achieved an excellent result in the “value for money” category, where it is at 11th place.

The top two positions remain unchanged from last year, with Switzerland’s University of St. Gallen in first place, followed by France’s HEC Paris, while London Business School comes in third this year. To view the complete ranking, please click here.
