Beyond Insurance: Uncovering sustainable solutions for a greener home – VIG’s Ecosystem Home
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Goal
The goal of this project was to explore and advance the Vienna Insurance Group’s (VIG) Ecosystem Home strategy. The primary objective was to identify innovative companies and solutions that enhance sustainable living, therefore aligning with VIG’s vision of promoting sustainability and creating long-term value for its customers.
Through comprehensive research and analysis, over 100 companies across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and Austria were evaluated, ensuring that each company had a presence in the target market, proof of concept, and a B2C focus with multiple customer touchpoints. This process was crucial in uncovering companies with the potential to contribute to VIG’s long-term strategy while aligning with its sustainability goals.
Methodology
To ensure an objective evaluation, a Weighted Scoring Matrix (WSM) was applied to assess companies across key criteria such as market fit, technological integration, sustainability, and growth potential. The WSM allowed for the prioritization of companies that not only met the basic requirements but also demonstrated innovation and a clear path to scaling their products and services. Key trends in the market, particularly in smart home technologies, energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable materials, were identified.
Additionally, a Market Development Projection was conducted, highlighting emerging trends such as smart home technologies, waste management, energy efficiency, sustainable materials and water management. This projection provided insights into the status quo and potential growth areas in each respective market.
An expert interview with Sigrid Stagl, Austria’s researcher of 2024, was also conducted. Her insights were integral in validating the findings, ensuring that the strategic recommendations were aligned with market needs and future regulatory developments.
Results
The research resulted in the identification of five companies that stand out for their unique offerings and alignment with VIG’s strategic objectives:
SolarGaps: Specializing in solar blinds that provide energy efficiency and cooling, SolarGaps offers an innovative solution for urban households.
Adeva: Known for backflow prevention valves, Adeva presents an opportunity for investment and collaboration through IoT-enabled solutions for flood prevention and weather-related services.
Loxone: A leader in smart home automation, Loxone’s systems for energy management and home security could enable VIG to integrate insurance into smart home packages.
Fuergy: Fuergy’s AI-driven energy management platform offers potential for integration with VIG’s insurance offerings to create frequent customer touchpoints.
Intewa: Providing water recycling systems, Intewa’s solutions could be incorporated into insurance plans focusing on water conservation and sustainability.
These companies represent high-growth opportunities for both investment and strategic cooperation. By aligning with these innovative solutions, VIG can strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable living solutions and eco-conscious insurance.
