WU best Austrian university in WirtschaftsWoche business administration ranking

10/12/2024

WU Vienna University of Economics and Business has once again scored a strong ranking result: WU comes in fifth in the current business administration research ranking issued by the German weekly WirtschaftsWoche, put together by KOF, ETH Zurich’s economic research institute. This makes WU the highest-ranked Austrian university in this list of the leading business schools in the German-speaking region.

The WirtschaftWoche business administration ranking is issued every two years and ranks the business administration departments of universities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by their research performance. No fewer than 116 WU-affiliated authors are listed in the various sub-rankings, which speaks to the excellent research output of WU’s professors and the innovative spirit of the up-and-coming researchers among WU’s faculty.

Numerous WU researchers represented in the sub-rankings

In addition to the main University Ranking, the analysis also includes three other categories: the Author Ranking (publications during the last ten years), the Under 40 Ranking (top researchers under the age of 40), and the Lifetime Ranking (lifetime achievements of important business administration researchers). These rankings survey publications in around 860 leading journals, weighted according to the journal ranking issued by the VHB (German Academic Association for Business Research).

An excellent position in the German-speaking region

The University of St. Gallen once again takes the top spot in the ranking, followed by the University of Zurich, the Technical University of Munich, and the University of Cologne. Apart from WU at fifth place, Austria is also represented by the University of Innsbruck (14th place) and the University of Vienna (21st place).

The results of the University Ranking have been published in the latest issue of the WirtschaftsWoche weekly. Details on the sub-rankings will be published on the Forschungsmonitoring platform in the course of the coming weeks.
