Registration period starts for WU’s bachelor’s programs

24/02/2021

From March 1 through May 17, prospective students can register online for WU’s 3 bachelor’s programs: Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo), Business Law (WiRe), and the English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics (BBE). If the number of valid registrations exceeds the number of available student places at the end of the registration period, selection procedures will be launched for the respective programs.

In the 2021/22 academic year, 2,703 places will be available in the Bachelor’s Program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences, 240 in the English-taught BBE program, and 870 in the Bachelor’s Program in Business Law. In the last few years, WU’s degree programs have continuously met with strong demand, and selection procedures had to be carried out for all 3 bachelor’s programs. “This strong demand is a very positive sign for us, because it confirms the high quality and excellent reputation of a WU degree. We are looking forward to receiving numerous applications again this year,” says WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger.

Phase 1 of the admission procedure

All prospective bachelor’s students are required to register online during the period from March 1 to May 17 (no school leaving certificate is required for the online registration). Applicants are also required to pay a registration fee of €50. After May 17, applicants will be notified of whether a specific selection procedure will be carried out for the program of their choice. If no selection procedure is necessary, applicants can be admitted directly without any further proceedings. If a selection procedure is carried out, applicants will have to complete the online self-assessment (OSA) test by May 31. The OSA test can already be completed during the registration phase. The purpose of this test is to help applicants make an informed decision when choosing a degree program. The OSA test is intended to give prospective students a realistic impression of the contents of the program they are interested in and of how the program is organized. It includes questions about the applicants’ expectations and interests, and it also offers exercises that test essential skills required for the program (e.g. reading comprehension in German and English). After completing the OSA, applicants receive feedback on the test. The answers are not graded and have no effect on the selection process for the selected bachelor’s program. In addition to completing the OSA test, applicants interested in the English-taught BBE program also have to upload a motivation statement written in English.

Phase 2 of the admission procedure

If, as of May 31, the number of applicants who complete the OSA (and, for the BBE program, submit a motivation statement) exceeds the number of places available, the next phase of the selection procedure will be launched. Applicants for the WiSo and/or WiRe programs will have until June 25 to complete a written assignment or essay. Details will be announced on the website. For the BBE program, a written entrance exam will be held on July 6. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the exam will be held online.

No applications accepted after the deadline

All prospective students interested in starting one of the German-taught programs either in the 2021/22 winter semester or the 2022 summer semester have to register online. This also applies to prospective students who still have to complete their compulsory military service or alternative civilian service and intend to start their bachelor’s program in the 2022 summer semester. For applicants interested in the BBE program, it will only be possible to start the program in the winter semester. Late applications cannot be accepted for any of the programs, and it will not be possible to take the exam at a later date. Everyone admitted to a WU bachelor’s program will receive a Welcome Package with study materials and vouchers worth the cash equivalent of the registration fee.
