WU schedules 2023 entrance exams as students flock to bachelor’s programs
Prospective students had until June 1 to complete the online self-assessment required for the admission process for WU Vienna’s bachelor’s degree programs. In the past few years, WU saw great interest in its programs, and in 2023, demand levels have stepped up another notch. The number of valid applications received for WU’s three bachelor’s programs far exceeds the number of available student places. This means that entrance examinations will be held for the bachelor’s programs in Business, Economics and Social Sciences, Business Law, and Business and Economics at the end of June and in early July.
This year, WU has received over 4,500 valid registrations for the 2,703 places available in the German-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo), with application figures hitting a ten-year high. More than 1,400 people are entitled to take the entrance exam for the Business Law (WiRe) program, WU’s bachelor’s program combining business administration with legal studies, which has a total of 870 available places. The English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics is in very high demand again this year, with almost 3,000 applicants competing for the 240 available places – another step up from the year before. In view of these application figures, entrance examinations will be held for all three bachelor’s programs.
Entrance exams in June and July
First up is the online entrance exam for the English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics, scheduled for June 27. The applicants interested in this program are very international, so the entrance exam is held online. The entrance exam for Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo) will be held on July 4, in the form of an online open-book exam. Applicants will have four hours to complete a number of assignments. To solve the questions asked in the exam, they can use aides such as online resources and teaching materials. For the Bachelor’s Program in Business Law, an in-person entrance exam will be held on Campus WU on July 11. A collective exam preparation weekend will be held for all prospective business law students from July 7 to 9. Individual study desks will be available to the exam participants on Campus WU, and business law professors will be on hand to answer content-related and organizational questions, also offering preparation courses where they will be discussing problems from previous exams and sample questions.
Strong interest as an indicator of quality
Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger is pleased to see that interest in WU’s degree programs remains strong, which, she says, speaks for the popularity and quality of the programs WU offers in business, economics, and law. As Rector Hanappi-Egger points out, “Students know that a WU degree gives them excellent job prospects. But another important factor is, of course, personal interest in the chosen subject. And to me, that’s great to see, because students who are enthusiastic about what they study have higher academic success rates. The continued popularity of WU’s programs confirms that our university is an attractive place to study and that our prospective students are highly motivated and passionate about the programs of their choice.”
