The 2015 CEEPUS Ministers’ Prize was awarded to WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) during a festive ceremony in Prague. WU received the prize for coordinating the AMADEUS network, which is the most successful academic network of CEEPUS, the Central European Exchange Program for University Studies.
The AMADEUS network, one of the largest mobility networks in the CEEPUS program, offers WU students and faculty the opportunity to study or teach at partner universities abroad.
“It is a great honor for WU to receive the CEEPUS Ministers’ Prize for the second time. It also motivates us to continue this program that has been so successful for WU and its partner institutions and to strengthen our relationships with the universities in the Central, Eastern, and Southern European region,” says the Head of the Competence Center for Central and Eastern Europe, Prof. Arnold Schuh, who accepted the award on behalf of WU.
AMADEUS emphasizes WU’s commitment to academic mobility in CEE
The AMADEUS network was one of the first networks initiated by CEEPUS in the 1994/95 academic year, making it a pioneer in the development of academic partnerships in the field of economics and business in the CEE region. Today, the network includes 14 universities in 12 countries. To date, approximately 400 students and 100 faculty members have participated in AMADEUS mobility programs.
Founding members besides WU were the University of Economics in Bratislava, Corvinus University of Budapest, and the University of Maribor. In the following years, further universities joined the AMADEUS network: The Universities of Economics in Cracow and Prague, Luigj Gurakuqi University, and the Universities of Zagreb, Montenegro, Belgrade, Primorska, Sarajevo, and Rijeka. The Bucharest University of Economic Studies was added to the network in 2014, and the University of Banja Luka will be joining in 2015. WU has coordinated the network since its foundation and also hosted the network meeting celebrating its 20-year anniversary in 2014.
Developing joint academic programs is one of CEEPUS’ main goals. Together with its partner institutions and further universities in the region, WU launched the academic program JOSZEF in the fall of 1994. JOSZEF actively encourages the development of the practically oriented management skills needed in the CEE region through academic mobility and cooperation with corporate partners. “WU’s numerous activities in the Central, Eastern, and Southern European region like the AMADEUS network, the JOSZEF program, and the CEE Master Class demonstrate WU’s commitment to research, teaching, and executive education in and on this economic area. This year’s CEEPUS Ministers’ Prize is further confirmation that we’re on the right track,” says Schuh.
