The WU@School program was launched in 2008. The idea was to reach out to soon-to-be high school graduates directly and show them that studying at WU is an exciting experience. WU ambassadors started visiting schools across Austria to present WU’s attractive degree programs, providing a first point of contact for prospective students. When WU opened its new campus, it saw a surge in demand for on-site visits. More and more high school groups came to Campus WU to get a taste of university life.

Changes due to the pandemic

The pandemic brought a number of difficulties, but WU rose to the challenge. The university developed innovative online offerings such as info and chat sessions to keep in contact with high school students even during lockdown. Last year saw a reversal of this trend and a return to more face-to-face school and campus visits.

Taking WU@School to the next level

Much of the success of WU@School is thanks to the student tutors who have brought the program to life since 2016. Their commitment and enthusiasm are key for giving high school students authentic insights into the WU experience. “Going forward, our goal is to reach even more young people and spark their enthusiasm for business and economics,” says WU Vienna Rector Rupert Sausgruber, “and to do that, we’re planning to update and expand the program to make it even more attractive.”
