Your responsibilities
This three-year position is offered to applicants who wish to complete a Ph.D. on Knowledge Graphs as a supporting technology for innovation. The position is part of 15 PhD studentships that will be funded as part of the Knowledge Graphs at Scale (KnowGraphs) EU H2020 MSCA-ITN-2019 - Innovative Training Networks (Grant aQreement 1D: 860801).
Your profile
Applicants for this Ph.D. position must have a master's degree that entitles them to enroll for a PhD program in one of the following subjects: computer science, information systems, business informatics, or a related field of study. A dual background in both information systems and innovation management is beneficial. In particular, successful applicants will have solid practical & theoretical foundations in one or multiple of the following fields:
- Innovation Management
- Open Innovation
- Knowledge Management
- Linked Data and Semantic Web Technologies
- Knowledge Representation & Reasoning
Profound knowledge in the following research areas will also be beneficial:
- Statistical methods and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R)
- Data Science and Machine Learning
- Computer-supported Cooperative Work
- Information Retrieval
- Software Engineering
- Graph Databases
- Big Data Management
Funding requirements: The funding for this position particularly invites international applications, i.e., applicants cannot have resided for more than 12 months over the past 3 years in the country of the host organisation (i.e., Austria). Studentships are restricted to Early Stage Researchers (ESR) who have not been awarded a doctoral degree. The position involves two secondments (i.e., internships) of 3 months in an industrial setting, with the aim of broadening the students' training and enriching their skills and experiences.
We expect excellent study results, technical knowledge of programming languages such as Java or Python, structured data formats such as JSON, XML and RDF, and query languages such as SQL, SPARQL, or graph query languages, etc. as well as proficiency in English.

The minimum gross monthly salary is € 2,864.50 (paid 14 times per year) + mobility allowance, subject to adjustment if candidates can document relevant prior professional experience.
This employee position will be limited to a period of three years, starting on April 01, 2020 (commencement date subject to change).
