Gendered Navigation of Power
Editors: Dr. Marie-Therese Claes, Dr. Anett Hermann and Dr. Andrea Romo Perez
This Handbook on Gendered Navigation of Power is a part of the Handbook of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Management - World Scientific Publishers1. This is a 5-volume, multi-disciplinary, comprehensive reference work, led by global domain experts.
The "Handbook on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" consists of cutting-edge research that serves as an indispensable guide to scholars on path-breaking research that has been conducted in the field, while also looking ahead to provide guideposts on what theoretical boundaries can be pushed in the context of future research imperatives.
This work will comprise cutting-edge research – both new and specially commissioned chapters – from global experts in the field, from various lenses:
An eclectic mix of contributions from both senior and emerging scholars from the Global North and the Global South
Concepts to be presented at three levels of analyses: i. Macro-national environment ii. meso-organizational interventions and iii. micro-individual and team heterogeneity.
Following Baumeister’s lead in encouraging scholars to break the hegemony of research consisting of good actions leading to good outcomes, and bad leading to bad, this Handbook produces more nuanced research which reflects organizational complexities
e.g woke and "anti-woke" perspectives resistance and backlash to DEI; tokenism; and performative allyship.
Each volume will end with a Teaching and Learning Section, to summarize how the research in the field can impact teaching in the classroom.
As Volume 5, the Handbook on Gender and Power Dynamics will consist of about 20 peer-
reviewed chapters (7,000-7,500 words including References), with each contribution expected to add new knowledge to the literature.
Gender and Power Dynamics refers to how power dynamics and hierarchies are influenced by and often structured around gender norms and expectations. This concept explores how
societal perceptions and expectations related to gender shape who holds power, how it is exercised, and the constraints placed on individuals based on their gender identity.
Gender-power relations provide a lens through which to analyse how power influences and is influenced by gender in diverse settings. This Handbook aims to advance our understanding of the complex dynamics at play by addressing questions such as:
What are the key research questions that could fundamentally advance the field of gender and power dynamics, particularly in relation to organizational action, processes, or practices?
What do we currently understand about the intersection of gender and power in organizational reality and practice? What crucial gaps in knowledge still need to be addressed?
How can we reconcile discrepancies between theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and the lived experiences of gender and power?
What unique challenges and perspectives arise when considering transgender identities within the context of power dynamics?
What gender-power issues do managers face? How do managers deal with gender- power imbalance?
We encourage submissions that not only deepen our theoretical understanding but also push forward innovative practices and methodologies. The goal of this volume is to spark new conversations and insights that will drive both theory and practice forward in meaningful
ways.
