Once you have completed 54 ECTS credits

• 42 ECTS credits of the core courses, excluding courses in the field of Academics Skills ("Introduction to Academic Writing" and "Logic and Methodology of Social Scienes")

PLUS

• 12 ECTS of the introductory courses

which will most likely be the case at the end of semester 2/ semester 3.

Before you can participate in the selection procedure for any specialization, you are required to register for the course “Access to Specialization “ (ET).You can sign up on LPIS by entering the course number. Please see the online course catalog for the course number of the Access to Specialization course you need.

Important: Students in the Business and Economics bachelor’s program can register for up to four Access to Specialization courses to enhance the chance of acceptance into a specialization. Every specialization you begin or complete is subtracted from the number of selection procedures you can sign up for. It is possible to deregister from an Access to Specialization course only during the indicated deregistration period.  

We may have to deactivate one specialization in the system in order for you to choose another third or fourth specialization in LPIS because only two specializations can be active at the same time, 10 ECTS specializations included. Only then you can register for courses of another specialization. We recommend to check the course registration periods of the various specializations. If possible, register for the specializations courses of the two active specializations first.

If you get accepted into a 3rd or 4th specialization, please send an e-mail to bbe@wu.ac.at for deactivation of a specialization. All your course registrations and grades will be active during all time, you only can’t see the specializations in LPIS and can’t register for courses of the deactivated specializations until it is reactivated by us upon your request. Note: Waiting list places and course exchange requests will automatically be deleted if a specialization is deactivated.

Students who successfully complete the selection procedure, i.e. complete the Access to Specialization course with a passing grade, can then sign up for the courses in each specialization using LPIS. The drop-down list of specializations in LPIS will show you the specialization selection procedures that you have successfully completed.

No ECTS credits are earned for Access to Specialization courses and they will not appear on your transcript.

After you have successfully completed the selection procedure, i.e. completed the Access to Specialization course with a passing grade (successfully completed/PT), you can then sign up for the courses in each specialization using LPIS. The drop-down list of specializations in LPIS will show you the specialization selection procedures that you have successfully completed.

If you have been admitted to a specialization but cannot attend it for some reason, please contact the institute responsible for the specialization immediately, so that they can assign your place to another student.

Important information:

• Please note that admission to specializations that start every semester is valid for one semester only. You must register for and complete at least one course* in your chosen specialization in the semester that you were admitted otherwise you will lose your spot. Therefore, carefully read the specializations' course structures and check their course registration deadlines. This only applies to specializations that start every semester.

• A place on the waiting list is NOT a course registration. If you do not sign up for a course of your chosen specialization on time within the registration period, you will lose your place after expiration of the registration period and will not be allowed to take the specialization.
