WU programs in high demand: Admission procedures started for all bachelor’s programs
May 15 marked the end of the registration period for WU’s three bachelor’s programs: Business, Economics and Social Sciences; Business and Economics; and Business Law. WU’s programs are in high demand again this year, with the number of prospective students surpassing last year’s levels. For all three bachelor’s programs, the number of registrations exceeded the number of available places. This means that selection procedures will be carried out for all programs.
WU’s English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics (BBE) met with strong interest last year (1,229 valid registrations for 120 available places). In response, the number of available places has been doubled to 240 for the coming winter semester. This year, 1,362 people have registered for the BBE program.
WU has received 3,856 registrations for the 2,703 places available in the German-taught Bachelor’s Program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo) this year. As with the BBE program, WU has also seen an increase in the number of registrations for the WiSo program (last year, WU received 3,481 valid registrations for 3,554 places). For the first time, prospective students also had to register by a specific deadline for the Bachelor’s Program in Business Law (WiRe). 1,167 people registered for the 870 places available in this program.
Next deadline: May 31
All prospective students who have signed up now have until May 31 to complete WU’s online self-assessment test and, for the BBE program, submit proof of their English skills and a letter of motivation. In early June, all applicants will be notified of whether an entrance exam will be held for the program of their choice. If this is the case, the BBE and WiSo entrance exams will be held on July 9, and the WiRe exam will take place on July 10.
Strong interest as an indicator of quality
WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger is pleased to see so much interest in WU’s academic programs. “This strong demand, which has grown even as compared to last year, is a positive sign for us. It confirms that our programs are widely known and offer high quality,” says Rector Hanappi-Egger. She points out that the selection procedure also has positive effects on student performance in the individual programs. “It’s good that prospective students have to actively reflect on their choice of program. The online self-assessment helps them make an informed decision. In the past, we’ve seen that students who participate in registration procedures go on to complete more exams in their academic program, and so we’re looking forward to welcoming our new students.”
