Your responsibilities
The Data Management Group at WU Wien has a job opening for a student or Prae-Doc position in the H2020 project Teaming.AI, which explores the cooperation between humans and AI in a smart manufacturing setting. For this project, we are looking for applicants interested in research at the intersection of Machine Learning and Knowledge Graphs. We expect the candidate to work with us on advancing the state of the art in knowledge graph design, curation, population, and exploitation, particularly by combining machine learning and semantic techniques in AI teaming settings.

Student position: the candidate is expected to finish his/her Master's degree in a relevant field of study (see below) within the first half year of the project. Once completed, there is the prospect for direct transfer to a PhD position.

Prae-Doc position: the candidate is expected to pursue a PhD and submit a PhD thesis on a topic in this research field.

Your profile
Student position:
The candidate must be in the final stages of study of a relevant master degree in computer science, information systems, business informatics or a related field of study.

PraeDoc position:
The candidate must have a master degree in computer science, information systems, business informatics or a related field of study.

Candidates should have a solid background in at least one of the following topic areas:
- machine learning and other branches of artificial intelligence
- logic-based Al, knowledge representation & reasoning
- data science
- knowledge graphs
- databases and data integration
- semantic web
- graph databases

In particular, we expect candidates to be interested in pursuing research opportunities combining com­plementary approaches (such as machine learning and knowledge representation).

We expect excellent study results as weil as technical knowledge in one or more of the following:
- programming languages (such as C++, Java, or Python}
- structured data formats (such as JSON, XML, and RDF)
- query languages (such as SQL, SPARQL, graph query languages)
- AI/ML frameworks (such as pyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow)

Candidates are also expected to be fluent in English and to have good communication skills (German is beneficial, but not required). Furthermore, experience in research projects or conducting scientific work (ideally documented in peer-reviewed publications) is beneficial (for prae doc position). Depending on the career stage, other, extracurricular qualifications that prove potential and enthusiasm for scientific work is also beneficial (please detail in your motivation letter and CV).

We offer an excellent research environment with international collaborations in a top-class research In­stitute, teaching opportunities in Europe's largest business school, particularly in our "Data Science" spe­cialization - hosted at a beautiful campus in one of the world's most livable cities.

The gross monthly salary for the student position is €1.058,30 and the minimum gross monthly salary for prae doc position is €2.196,75 (subject to adjustment if candidates can document relevant prior professional experience), each paid 14 times per year.

This employee position will be limited to a period of three years, starting on January 01, 2021 (commencement date subject to change).
