Who sets the price?

This event is organized by the WU Department of Economics

Market power, as indicated by rising markups, is increasing. Recent studies suggest that these changes are largely due to technological advances. The online market in particular is growing strongly. Lax tax policies have facilitated the growth of this sector. What does this mean for the competitive dynamics of the banking sector or the online lodging sector? Does this development affect consumer welfare negatively? And what role do common ownership and technology actually play as a determinant of pricing?

Keynote:

Laura Grigolon, Assistant Professor of Microeconomics, University of Mannheim
