Selection procedures start for WU Vienna bachelor’s programs
As part of a multi-stage selection process, WU will again be offering sample entrance exams and an exam prep weekend to provide comprehensive support to prospective students. WU’s Open Day on March 7 will give everyone interested in WU’s academic programs the opportunity to find out more about studying at WU.
Traditionally, WU Vienna’s degree programs attract a lot of interest – so much so that the university has had to carry out entrance exams year by year. Last year, WU received over 10,000 applications from prospective students – a new all-time high. WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber hopes that many people looking for a degree program will choose WU again this year. “We’re excited to see that WU is such a popular choice for prospective students. This speaks to the high quality and the international renown of our degree programs,” Sausgruber says. The number of student places available remains unchanged for the academic year 2025/26: WU offers 240 places for the English-taught Business and Economics (BBE) program, 2,703 for the German-taught Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WISO) program, and 870 for the German-taught Business Law (WIRE) program.
A multi-stage selection procedure
Prospective students have until May 21 to register for the WISO and BBE programs. For the WIRE program, the registration deadline is June 2. Whether a selection procedure will be held is determined after the end of the registration period. If a selection procedure is carried out, applicants will have to complete the online self-assessment (OSA) test for the program of their choice by June 2 (BBE and WISO) or June 11 (WIRE). The OSA includes questions about the applicants’ motivation, expectations, and relevant skills for the program chosen. In the OSA tests for the WISO and BBE programs, the subject-specific parts are graded. If the number of applicants still exceeds the number of available places after the OSA deadline, entrance examinations are held.
WU offers sample entrance exams and an exam prep weekend
For BBE applicants, an online entrance exam is planned for July 17. The online exam format makes it easier for international applicants to participate because it eliminates the need to travel to Vienna. The WISO entrance exam, scheduled for July 1, will also be held online, due to the large number of participants. To help candidates prepare for these online exams, WU will hold two sample examinations. “For everyone interested in studying at WU, it’s strongly recommended to participate in the sample exams. They’re designed to help applicants familiarize themselves with the exam platform and let them experience first-hand what it’s like to take a WU entrance exam,” WU Rector Rupert Sausgruber points out. The entrance exam for the Business Law program will be held as an in-person exam on July 8. To help applicants prepare for this exam, WU will hold an exam prep weekend on Campus WU again, from July 4 to 6. WU professors will be on hand to tutor the applicants and go through open questions together.
No applications accepted after the deadline
All prospective students interested in starting one of the German-taught programs either in the 2025/26 winter semester or the 2026 summer semester have to register online now. This also applies to prospective students who still have to complete their compulsory military service or alternative civilian service and intend to start their bachelor’s program in the 2026 summer semester. For applicants interested in the BBE program, it will only be possible to start the program in the winter semester. Late applications cannot be accepted for any of the programs, and it will not be possible to take the exam at a later date.
