Financial Times European Business School Ranking: WU at place 34

Location: Starting on 07 December 2020 at 09:19

In the most recent Financial Times European Business School Ranking, WU placed 34th out of 90 leading European business schools ranked this year. WU has moved up 7 places from last year, scoring one of its best results ever since its inclusion in this ranking. WU already achieved excellent results in two FT program rankings: ‘Masters in Management’ (placing 11th out of 90 worldwide programs) and ‘Executive MBA’ (taking 32nd place out of 100 ranked programs worldwide).

90 leading European business schools qualified for the Financial Times’ 2020 European Business School Ranking. As last year, HEC Paris takes the top spot again in this year’s ranking, followed by London Business School. France’s INSEAD business school comes in at 3rd place. The results are based on the schools’ performance across the FT’s five main program rankings. This means that the number of individual rankings a university participates in influences the end result. The top 3 universities have good results in all 5 or 4 program rankings. WU only participates in 2 of these global sub-rankings, the ‘Masters in Management’ and ‘Executive MBA’ rankings. In the European Business School Ranking, WU is the highest-placing school with only 2 individual program rankings.

An advantage for graduates

“In 2020, WU has achieved excellent results in a number of rankings again. It’s always good to maintain a critical perspective on such lists, but it’s also clear that rankings which compare similar programs and universities are better quality indicators than others. One thing is for sure, however: This outstanding result in the Financial Times Business School Ranking confirms that WU has an excellent reputation worldwide. It’s good to see an Austrian university perform so well in international rankings,” says WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger. “The ones who benefit most from such ranking results are our students, however. What you study is certainly an important factor, but the university you choose is very important, too.”

WU excels in international experience

In the 2 individual rankings that were used to determine its place in the European Business Schools Ranking, WU did particularly well in two categories: the international experience of its students and the high salaries of its graduates. Student exchange programs and international internships are an important part of WU’s Executive MBA and Master in International Management programs. Students who graduate from these programs are very successful in the job market and have a high average income.
