How do waiting lists work, and how will I be informed of my position on the list?

LPIS will indicate that waiting lists are available as soon as a course of one of the types named above is fully booked. If parallel courses are available for one module and all of these courses are fully booked, students can sign up for multiple waiting lists in that module.

If you are on several waiting lists for a specific module, you may be assigned to any one of these courses (see below for details). We therefore recommend that you only join the waiting lists for courses that you know you can and want to attend, or that you drop any unwanted courses as soon as possible so that the place can be assigned to other students.

Once you have been assigned a place in a PI, VUE, FS, or AG course that you were on the waiting list for, you will be notified by email to your WU mail account. Your LPIS account will show that you have been signed up for the course.

How are waiting list places assigned?

Places on the waiting list are awarded either on a first-come, first-served basis or based on the student’s academic progress.

Until the end of the registration period, places are assignedon a first-come, first-served basis.  If one of your fellow students drops a fully booked course during the registration period, the student listed on the top spot of the waiting list will receive the place that has become available. You can use the LPIS system to view your current positions on the waiting lists you have signed up for.

After expiry of the registration period, no more vacant places in courses will be assigned to students on waiting lists via the LPIS system. Instructors can still add students based on either mode, i.e. first-come, first-served or academic progress; the individual course syllabus in the online course catalog (VVZ) will specify which mode the instructor has chosen. In the event that the demand for course places far exceeds the amount of available places in a specific module, WU will try to provide additional places. In some cases, it is possible to increase the number of available course places on short notice before the courses start. It is up to the course instructors to decide how to distribute the additional places. They can use the waiting lists to distribute additional places, but they may also apply other criteria for the distribution.

What do you have to do if you decide not to attend the course or are unable to attend?

If you obtain a place in a course through a waiting list but decide not to attend the course or find that you’re unable to attend, please drop the course immediately via the LPIS system before the end of the registration period.

How does the course exchange service work, and how will I be informed of course registrations and exchanges?

Once you’ve signed up for a course via LPIS, any parallel courses that are available will be listed below the course you’ve signed up for, but you will not be able to sign up for other courses within the same module.

If a course is listed as “exchange request possible”, you can click the “request”-button to indicate that you wish to swap places with someone in this course.

If there are still free places available foryourdesired course, this will immediately sign you up for the course, which will show up in your LPIS account. Your original course registration will be cancelled automatically.

If you request an exchange for a course with no free places available, your request will remain active and can be managed via the “Individual enrollment” (curriculum) page.
If you submit multiple exchange requests for courses that are fully booked, the system will automatically assign you to the first option that becomes available. You will be informed by email to your WU email account of a successful exchange placement. If no exchange opportunities have become available by the end of the registration period, your original registration will be confirmed.

What are the relevant dates and deadlines?

The course exchange service is only available during the registration period for the course you’ve signed up for. Open exchange requests remain active until the end of the registration period for the desired course and are then deleted if no exchange opportunity has become available by the end of the registration period.
