About Us

The Competence Center for Emerging Markets and Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) is WU’s gateway to emerging, developing, and advancing economies globally. Across all WU departments, it connects research and expertise associated with economies toward global integration and the related societal transformations.

The Center was established in 2007 with a focus on the CEE region to highlight WU’s local embeddedness, increase visibility, coordinate and implement CEE-related study programs and projects, and create new channels for knowledge transfer. The period from 2017 till 2019 was marked by a broadening of the Center’s mission and scope from the traditional CEE focus to one that considers the emerging-economy phenomenon globally. This has resulted in thematic and interdisciplinary expansion of the Center’s activities.

Integrating both regional focus areas and competence areas sets the foundation for the Center’s activities.
