Karin Heitzmann is a habilitated socio-economist and associate university professor at the Institute for Social Policy. She also heads the Economics of Inequality Research Institute (www.wu.ac.at/INEQ/home). She studied at WU, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, USA, the University of Bath, England, and St. Patricks College in Maynooth, Ireland. After completing her doctorate at WU, she worked for a year as a consultant at the World Bank (Social Protection Department) in Washington, D.C., USA.

Main research and teaching interests: welfare state research (Austrian social policy; sustainability of social policy); poverty research (analyses of poverty policy, causes and effects of poverty and groups affected by poverty, e.g. single parents); inequality research (poverty, wealth and inequality in the EU/OECD).
