Impact-oriented networks in the context of philanthropy: an evaluation of the Bosch Alumni Network

In this empirical evaluation project, researchers from the Social Entrepreneurship Center explored the benefits, effects and value drivers of the Bosch Alumni Network using interviews, participatory observation and an online survey. With 6,800 members, this network is currently one of the largest impact-oriented networks. The empirical evaluation project for the Bosch Alumni Network was completed in September 2020 and the results were presented to the project partner (International Alumni Center, or iac Berlin for short).

The results show impressively how the international network promotes interaction and collaboration among its members thereby creating both direct benefits for the members and subsequently social impact. Among other outcomes, 3,300 new projects were initiated between members of the network and 5,900 hours of voluntary monthly peer-to-peer support was provided. This not only means that the surveyed members attribute an average of 25% of their success to network membership, but also promotes self-reinforcing cycles in the network itself. The Bosch Alumni Network can thus be described as a circular, impact-oriented network.

The project was presented to the board of Robert Bosch Stiftung in September 2020 in cooperation with project partner iac Berlin and since discussed in various online lectures.
