Biographical Sketch

Selin Öner is a a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Management’s Institute for Public Management and Governance at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien). Her research focuses on the intersection of digitalization, sustainability, and organizations, particularly focusing on the societal impact of digital technologies and their implications for public trust, accountability, and inclusion. Her work explores trust in digital (public) innovations, digital collective action, ethical implications of digital tools, “twin transformation” (digitalization & sustainability) in urban context, and emerging notions like sustainable digitalization and digital humanism.

Before joining the team, she held postdoctoral positions at the Institute for Organization Studies, Institute for Ethics in Management, and the Institute for Urban Management at WU Wien, also contributing to several third-party funded research projects.

Selin received her doctoral degree in communication from Istanbul Bilgi University. Her dissertation examined trust in sharing economy, focusing on the role of platform organizations in trust formation. She has an interdisciplinary background, with a B.A. in Economics (minor in Mathematics) from Sabancı University (Istanbul) and an M.Sc. in Finance from the University of Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). She also has teaching experience in management, digital platforms as well as in interdisciplinary courses such as 'Media and Global Politics,' exploring the intersection of media, digitalization, and political processes.

Prior to her academic career, she worked in in equity research and corporate finance across corporate- and investment banking positions in Türkiye, covering sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and real estate. She has also been active in the nonprofit sector in Austria through social impact and innovation projects, focusing on inclusion and developing digital skill-building programs for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Additionally, she serves as an Independent Expert Evaluator for the European Commission’s European Innovation Council. Through her research and engagement, she seeks to bridge academia, ethical and inclusive innovation, and societal impact.
