CERN Prototyping Hackathon Announcement

What is the idea of CERN Prototyping Hackathon?

Many technologies tend to be underutilized, that is why identifying additional fields of application for an existing technology is an issue of major importance for research organizations, technology driven corporations and start-up ventures. During the semester a group of business students from the Vienna University of Economics and Business systematically searches and evaluates new application fields for the intermediate temperature superconductors (ITS). The logical next step after that is development of communication prototypes for the most promising application areas – that is a goal of the three-day CERN Prototyping Hackathon taking place at CERN Idea Square from 22nd to 24th of September 2017, right after the 13th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity.

The idea of the Hackathon is to bring together CERN engineering teams, bright students with a technical background, business students, as well as the lead customers with a deep knowledge of the market in order to develop a conceptual prototypes for ITS in most promising application fields. During the Hackathon participants will get insights into design thinking method, prototyping techniques, business modelling and will get the chance to work in interdisciplinary team on a real-life project in superconductivity field.

Preliminary Agenda
