WU defines the Third Mission as having a comprehensive role in the broader society. We do this by partnering in various innovation networks, (co)producing research-based sustainability solutions, and serving as an anchor in the community.

The updated 2023 report, coproduced by the Rector's office and STaR, provides many examples of the Third Mission activities, organized around four broad topics: Engaged research, Engaged teaching, Social engagement, and Societal role model. It also illustrates how WU Vienna contributes to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN Agenda 2030.
