EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Digital assets are a relatively new asset class including assets like crypto-currencies and tokens. Traditional financial services providers such as banks, insurance companies or hedge funds only slowly move into this new market. One oft-reported reason for this caution is the lack of service providers for the execution, clearing and settlement of digital assets.

The aim of this project was to gain an overview over providers of trade and post-trade services for digital assets in Europe.

High compliance standards for traditional market participants (e.g. banks) prevent them from collaborating with non-regulated entities for trade and post-trade services. Therefore the focus of this project was on regulated service providers.

Using various methodologies, three clusters of digital asset service providers – all with distinct service offerings – were identified.
