Digital Fundraising Opportunities of the Future for Viva con Agua

29/10/2024

Summer Semester 2024 / Viva con Agua

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The vision of our project partner, Viva con Agua “water for all – all for water” is important now and will only get more critical in the future. To empower Viva con Agua to take on this important mission even better in the future, we developed strategies to optimize their digital fundraising strategy in the next ten years. Our mission was to answer the question “How will the digitalization change the fundraising opportunities of an NGO within the next ten years?”.

Goal

The goal of this project course was to provide Viva con Agua with information about how the world of fundraising might change in the next ten years through digitalization. Furthermore, giving the organization ideas and tools they can use to prepare for the different scenarios that might occur in the future. This way Viva con Agua should be able to prepare for different future scenarios.

Methodology

In the first phase of the project, we started with trend research and trend analysis, to filter which trends will influence fundraising now and in the next years. With the help of interviews and a correlation matrix framework, we filtered the most important trends and broke them down to two key driving forces: Hyper-Personalization and Simplexity. With these two driving forces, four scenarios were developed using a four-field matrix. Finally, strategic recommendations were formulated, showing how Viva con Agua can reach the desired state in each of the scenarios by using a Gap analysis framework.

Results

As a result, four scenarios were defined: Back to the Roosts, User-friendly Standardization, Digital Utopia and Bound to Divide. Key findings to tackle these future scenarios were found in data collection and taking advantage of recent technological advancements like AI. Being able to use new tools to adapt to recent developments and taking repetitive work off the employees who can then prioritize donor relationships is crucial. Furthermore, this project enables Viva con Agua to be transformative and adaptable to all scenarios, be it showing more presence online or offline. Building the technological infrastructure to use AI and data collecting will be essential for the future.
