30/09/2023

Our Institute head and co-founder Wilfried Altzinger will be taking his well-deserved retirement starting with October. We thank him for his work and wish him all the best!

Wilfried Altzinger co-founded the research institute "Economics of Inequality" at WU Vienna in 2015 and has since co-directed it with Karin Heitzmann. He teaches and researches in the areas of economic policy, wealth and income distribution, the labour market and European integration. In 2014 he was (co-)organizer of the annual conference of the Austrian Economic Association on “Economics of Inequality”. Altzinger also played an essential role in the establishment of the “Rothschild-Steindl-Special-Collection” in memory of the two eminent Austrian economists. In 2014 Altzinger was a visiting researcher with Antony Atkinson at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School (Oxford, UK).

INEQ and its staff would like to thank Wilfried Altzinger for his many discussions on economic policy, his constructive advice and his leadership of the institute over so many years. We are very pleased that he will continue to be available to the institute after his retirement and enrich it with his knowledge. Karin Heitzmann will continue as Head of Institute.
