Integrity

When it comes to using or developing AI systems, WU employees are guided by a strong sense of personal responsibility, for example regarding the selection of appropriate AI applications, quality assurance, technical assessments, compliance with legal regulations, and ethical aspects. It is essential to keep in mind that the use of AI may also have repercussions for the work of others and for the acceptance of and trust placed in WU as an organization, the professionalism of its employees, and academia in general.

When using AI, WU employees act respectfully, guided by the principles of economic efficiency and sustainability, and take care to minimize the amount of data used. They respect the intellectual achievements of others, including copyright protection. WU employees are also aware of the biases that can be inherent in AI data input and output, which may result in discrimination or exclusion, and they help to reduce or eliminate these potential biases wherever possible.

When using AI, WU employees follow the relevant labeling recommendations and adhere to the transparency standards of the respective scientific community. In some cases, pertinent regulations are already available, e.g. the COPE position statement on authorship and AI tools and WU’s recommendations for the use of generative AI in teaching (in German).
