Professor Obenaus received his Mag. rer. soc. oec degree in 1976 and his Dr. rer. soc. oec. degree in 1979, both from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. In 1978 he spent a research period at Georgetown University and at the Export-Import Bank of the United States in Washington, D. C. focusing on government-supported export promotion (export credit guarantees and export finance). Concentrating on government-supported promotion of foreign direct investment he spent another research period at Georgetown University and at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation in 1982. He spent another research period at Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and with the Schumpeter-Fellowship in 1990 doing research on international economics. Between 1976 and 1991 he was assistant professor at the Institute. He became full professor in 1991.
